Had a great time last night at Movie Night. I haven't watched "Napoleon Dynamite" in a few years. There were many parts that I had forgotten about. Like Uncle Rico and Kip are sitting on the front steps of the house eating steak, Napoleon comes up riding Pedro's bicycle with Pedro standing on the pegs, and Uncle Rico grabs Kip's steak and throws it at Napoleon and hits him in the head. Who is the person who thought of that?
Anyway, after the movie we talked about expectations and the expectations that the characters had of themselves and had for each other. Some of them exceeded those expectations. Others were still floundering at the end of the movie.
Then the conversation turned to what expectations people had of Jesus during His time on earth. And it seemed that, for the most part, those who were sick had great expectations of Jesus. And He lived up to those expectations by physically healing them, but then He also exceeded them by also healing some of the spiritually.
Then there are the disciples who had certain expectations of Jesus. They thought He needed to act and speak a certain way. And when He didn't, they questioned Him and asked Him why He did certain things. And a few times, Jesus looked at them and said, "Where is your faith?"
May we know that any expectation we might have of Jesus will never be bigger than Him. And yet, somehow, He's small enough to be with each of us individually.
Reminder: Wednesday 6-7 is open gym. Then Student Life from 7-8:30 in the commons.
